Mohawk's McCurdey passes away

Larry W. McCurdy, director of Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries and chairman of its Audit Committee, died Tuesday. He was 75.

McCurdy had been a member of Mohawk’s board since the company’s initial public offering in 1992.

“Larry was a key contributor to our growth over the past two decades,” Mohawk CEO Jeffrey S. Lorberbaum said. “He had a distinct perspective that combined all aspects of finance, marketing and manufacturing to positively position a business in a competitive environment. He brought a keen intellect and unique experience that reached across a broad array of subjects. Larry was a strategic thinker who helped us find innovative solutions to the challenges we faced. We will miss his good counsel and friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

In addition to his service on the Mohawk Board, McCurdy served as chairman, president and CEO of Echlin Inc. After Echlin’s merger with Dana Corp. in 1998, he served as president of the Dana Automotive Aftermarket Group. He had previously served as president and CEO of Moog Automotive until Moog’s acquisition by Cooper Industries. He was executive vice president-operations for Cooper following the acquisition. McCurdy also served on the boards of directors of Affinia Group, General Parts and Lear Corp.
