Magazine cites seven at Shaw for excellence in floorcovering

Seven Shaw Industries associates were named as winners or honorable mentions in Floor Focus magazine’s Future Focus Awards. The awards promote and recognize excellence among rising, career-minded professionals in the floorcovering industry.

Shaw associates represent winners in four of the six categories: research and development/production design, marketing, manufacturing and employee development/human resources.

To enter, associates were required to be under age 35 and to have worked in the floorcovering industry for at least five years. The contest was open to associates in all areas in the flooring industry including manufacturing, distribution, retail, architecture and design in any market sector, residential or commercial.

“The recognition of these seven Shaw associates by Floor Focus magazine speaks to the quality of our associates at Shaw; their experience, skill and dedication represent one of the world’s most talented groups of professionals,” Shaw CEO Vance Bell said.

Winners were chosen based on their career achievements, definition of leadership and thoughts on the future of the floorcovering industry.

Shaw’s winners are:

Research and development/product design winner: Ashley Olson

Olson has worked on several award-winning collections as a designer for Shaw Contract Group including The Music Project and 18X36.

Marketing winner: Mollie Surratt

Surratt leads the residential public relations efforts for Shaw as well as all marketing functions for Anderson Hardwood, from graphics to promotions. According to her application, Surratt said that investing in relationships and delivering on commitments are keys to success.

Marketing honorable mention: Megha Shah

Shaw’s international marketing manager, Shah works to establish global brand presence for Shaw Contract Group in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. In her free time, Shah said in her profile that she enjoys learning about cultures, attempting new languages (currently Hindi and Arabic) and writing about her travels in her blog.  

Manufacturing winner: Wayne Gerber

Gerber oversees the production in two extrusion departments that produce more than 100 million pounds of synthetic PET, PP and nylon fiber each year as production manager for Plant WM. In his profile, Gerber said that the essence of leadership revolves around three things: decisiveness, engagement and foresight.  

Manufacturing honorable mention: Roderick MacLeod

MacLeod serves as the process improvement manager over five Shaw manufacturing facilities including tufting, dyeing, latex coating, urethane foaming and printing processes. MacLeod said he enjoys hiking, mountain biking and whitewater kayaking in his spare time.  

Employee development/human resources winner: Lisa Rodriguez Buice

Rodriguez Buice is responsible for providing direction for all corporate diversity initiatives and programs as Shaw’s corporate diversity manager. Rodriguez Buice promotes diversity in the community as well, serving on the Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering diversity advisory board as well as the diversity development committee for the Global Diversity and Inclusion Foundation.

Employee development/human resources honorable mention: Sandra Johnson

Johnson came to the United States from Colombia with a dream of getting a college education and an opportunity for a better future. Today, Johnson works as a human resources manager for the samples division, having earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
